NRA Shotgun Shell Reloading Instructor Course

NRA Shotgun Shell Reloading Instructor Training

It is required that the pre-course assessment be completed prior to attending the Instructor Course. The assessment may be conducted at any Dynamic Firearms Training Course and should be scheduled in advance.

Lesson Details

Lessons begin at lesson six taking into consideration that Basic Instructor Training (BIT) covers lessons 1-5

LESSON VI - (1 hr)

Venue - Classroom

Introduction to Reloading and Reloading Safety

At the conclusion of this lesson instructor candidates will be able to:

· Describe the firing process

· Explain the reloading process

· Explain why people reload

· Name and explain the fundamental safety rules for reloading

LESSON VII - (1 hr)

Venue - Classroom

Center-fire Cartridge Components

At the conclusion of this lesson instructor candidates will be able to:

· Give the proper nomenclature for shotgun shell components:

o Cases (hulls)

o Primers

o Powder

o Wads, and

o Bullets

· State and explain the proper handling and storage procedures for shotgun shell components

LESSON VIII - Using the Reloading Manual and Reloading Data (1 hr)

Venue - Classroom

Center-fire Cartridge Components

At the conclusion of this lesson instructor candidates will be able to:

· Select a suitable load for a particular shotgun shell from a reloading manual

· Identify useful ballistics information for shotgun shell in reloading manuals

LESSON IX - (1 hr)

Venue - Classroom

The Metallic Cartridge Reloading Equipment

At the conclusion of this lesson instructor candidates will be able to:

· Identify the equipment necessary to reload shotgun shell

· Explain the proper operation and maintenance or reloading equipment

· Explain the requirements for a basic reloading bench

LESSON X - (1 hr)

Venue - Classroom

The Metallic Cartridge Reloading Process

At the conclusion of this lesson instructor candidates will be able to:

· Explain the proper techniques used to reload a shotgun shell

· Identify and explain the proper hygiene guidelines for handling lead and components

LESSON XI - (2 hrs)

Venue - Classroom

Basic Metallic Cartridge Reloading Practical Exercise

At the conclusion of this lesson instructor candidates will be able to:

· Setup and operate reloading equipment

· Reload a shotgun shell

LESSON XII - (1 hr)

Course Review and Examination

At the conclusion of this lesson instructor candidates will be able to:

· Successfully complete the NRA Basic Shotgun Shell Reloading Course written examination
