NRA Personal Protection Outside the Home Instructor Training
Pre-Requisite This instructor training course has specific pre-requisites as follows:
PRE-COURSE ASSESSMENT (45 min) - Classroom & Range · Complete the student exam for Personal Protection Outside the Home, earning at least 90% · Perform practical exercises demonstrating the necessary knowledge
Lesson Details Lessons begin at lesson six taking into consideration that Basic Instructor Training (BIT) covers lessons 1-5
Introduction to NRA Basic Personal Protection Outside the Home Course Lesson Plans At the conclusion of this section instructor candidates will be able to: · State the goal of the NRA Basics of Personal Protection Outside The Home Course · Describe the structure of the NRA Basics of Personal Protection Outside The Home Course Outline and Lesson Plans · Explain NRA policies on safety procedures, course length, required materials and teaching methods to be followed when conducting an NRA Basics of Personal Protection Outside The Home Course · Outline the content of the NRA Basics of Personal Protection Outside The Home Course LESSON SEVEN (4 hr) Venue - Range Teaching Basic of Personal Protection Outside the Home Lesson V At the conclusion of this section instructor candidates will be able to: · Conduct Lesson V of the NRA Basics of Personal Protection Outside The Home Course: Presenting the Pistol concealment
o Presenting the Handgun from Concealment o Exercises: § Hip Holster Exercise § Purse Holster Exercise § Optional: Fanny Pack LESSON EIGHT (4 hr) - Range Teaching Basic of Personal Protection Outside the Home Lesson VI : Presentation, Position and Movement At the conclusion of this section instructor candidates will be able to: · Conduct lesson VI of the NRA Basics of Personal Protection Outside The Home Course o Presentation, Position and Movement § Exercises: · Standing and move to high barricade · Standing engaging two targets · Strong hand only · Two-handed point shooting · One-handed point shooting Venue - Classroom Teaching Basic of Personal Protection Outside the Home Lesson VII: Special Shooting Techniques At the conclusion of this section instructor candidates will be able to: · Conduct Lesson VII of the NRA Basics of Personal Protection Outside The Home Course o Special Shooting Techniques this covers the 'Advanced' component of the PPOTH Student course Normally conducted in a second Instructor training session § Exercises: · Strong hand hip shooting · Moving rearward · Standing or kneeling behind a low barricade · Standing or squatting behind a low barricade · Moving to low barricade and firing from kneeling or squatting · Standing and turning 90 degrees to the left · Standing and turning 90 degrees to the right · Standing, facing 180 to target, turning left · Standing, facing 180 to target, turning right · Engaging a target at extended range · Firing under low-light conditions LESSON TEN (60 min) Venue - Classroom · Explain the role of the examination in the training process · Explain the role of student evaluations in instructor development · Explain the importance recognizing students upon successful completion of a student training course · Take instructor certification test: Score of 90% required for full certification · Applying to the NRA for certification as a pistol instructor · Equipment Requirements · Firearm Retention o Strong-side concealed-carry hip holster (required for each instructor candidate) o Concealed-Carry Vest or light jacket (required) o Concealed-carry purse (one must be available for entire instructor class) o Fanny-pack carry holster (one must be available for entire instructor class) · Ammunition o Lesson Seven: 42 rounds o Lesson Eight: 54 rounds o Lesson Nine: 112 rounds
