NRA Personal Protection In The Home Instructor Training
It is required that the pre-course assessment be completed prior to attending the Instructor Course. The assessment may be conducted at any Dynamic Firearms Training Course involving a Range session and should be scheduled in advance. PRE-COURSE ASSESSMENT Venue – Classroom/Range · Safely load and unload all available demonstration firearms, covering at least: · Double-action Revolver · Semi-automatic Pistol · Complete rifle shooting exercises as follows: · Two-handed Standing Position · One-handed Standing Position · Two-handed Standing Position different action type · All shots must hit target

Introduction to NRA Basic Personal Protection Shooting Course Lesson Plans At the conclusion of this lesson instructor candidates will be able to: · State the goal of the NRA Basic Personal Protection In The Home Course · Describe the Structure of the NRA Basic Personal Protection In The Home Course Outline and Lesson Plans · Explain NRA policies on safety procedures, course length, required materials, and teaching methods to be followed when conducting an NRA Basic Personal Protection In The Home Course · Outline the content of the NRA Basic Personal Protection In The Home Course LESSON SEVEN (60 min) Venue - Classroom Teaching Personal Protection Lesson I: Introduction to Defensive Shooting At the conclusion of this lesson instructor candidates will be able to: · Conduct Lesson I of the NRA Basic Personal Protection In The Home Course · Explain the importance of using firearms responsibly and ethically for Personal Protection In The Home · Explain the Importance of developing the proper mindset for using a firearm for Personal Protection In The Home · Explain the NRA’s four levels of awareness · Explain the importance of mental preparation and physical training for a potentially life threatening confrontation LESSON EIGHT (180 min) Venue - Range Teaching Personal Protection Lesson II: Basic Defensive Handgun Skills At the conclusion of this lesson instructor candidates will be able to: · Conduct lesson II of the NRA Basic Personal Protection In The Home Course · Conduct a range safety briefing · Explain and demonstrate all live fire exercises · Supervise the safe conduct of all live fire exercises LESSON NINE (30 min) Venue - Classroom Teaching Personal Protection Lesson III: Firearms and the Law, Possession, Ownership and the Use of Deadly Force At the conclusion of this lesson instructor candidates will be able to: · Identify persons authorized to conduct Lesson III of NRA Personal Protection In The Home Course · Determine what material to provide a guest instructor LESSON TEN (60 min) - Classroom Teaching Personal Protection Lesson IV: Strategies for Home Safety and Responding to a Violent Confrontation At the conclusion of this lesson instructor candidates will be able to: · Conduct lesson IV of NRA Personal Protection In The Home Course · Explain Strategies and methods to enhance personal safety at home and in public · Describe strategies for responding to potentially life threatening encounter. · Explain the Importance of mentally preparing for the aftermath of a violent confrontation LESSON ELEVEN (40 min) Venue - Classroom Teaching Personal Protection Lesson V: Selecting a Handgun for Self-Defense At the conclusion of this lesson instructor candidates will be able to: · Conduct Lesson V of the NRA Basic Personal Protection In The Home Course · Identify the criteria for selecting a pistol and ammunition suited to individual self-defense needs · Identify the major cartridge designs available for practice and Personal Protection In The Home, and explain the use, advantages, and disadvantages of each type LESSON TWELVE (30 min) Venue - Classroom Teaching Personal Protection Lesson VI: Sports Shooting Activities and Training Opportunities At the conclusion of this lesson instructor candidates will be able to: · Conduct Lesson VI of the NRA Personal Protection In The Home Course · Identify organizations, associations clubs, and businesses that may help your students hone, enhance, and expand their Personal Protection In The Home skills · Explain methods and precautions for dry-fire practice
LESSON THIRTEEN (90 min) - Classroom Teaching Personal Protection Lesson VII: Course Review and Examination At the conclusion of this portion instructor candidates will be able to: · Explain the role of the examination in the training process · Explain the role of student evaluations in instructor development · Explain the importance recognizing students upon successful completion of a student training course · Take instructor certification test: Score of 90% required for full certification · Applying to the NRA for certification as a pistol instructor
