NRA Chief Range Safety Officer Training
This course is required by any Range Safety Officer, who wants to be certified to train new RSO's (train the trainer). Is has the standard NRA Basic Instructor training program (6-hr course) as its pre-requisite (representing the first 5 lessons of this training course). Lessons begin at lesson six taking into consideration that Basic Instructor Training (BIT) covers lessons 1-5
Lesson Details LESSON SIX (60 min) Venue - Classroom Introduction to the NRA Basic Range Safety Officer Lesson Plans At the conclusion of this lesson instructor candidates will be able to: · State the goal of the NRA Chief Range Safety Officer Course · Describe the structure and content of the NRA Chief Range Safety Officer Course Outline and Lesson Plans · Explain NRA policies on safety procedures, course length, required materials, and teaching methods to be followed when conducting an NRA Chief Range Safety Officer Course LESSON SEVEN (60 min) Venue - Classroom The role of the Chief Range Safety Officer and Range Standard Operating Procedures
At the conclusion of this lesson instructor candidates will be able to:
· Describe the role of the NRA Chief Range Safety Officer Course · Explain the general purpose of Range Standard Operating Procedures · Explain the basic content of Range Standard Operating Procedures · Explain the CSRO’s role in the development of Range Standard Operating Procedures LESSON EIGHT (60 min) Venue - Classroom Teaching Basic Range Safety Officer Lesson I and II: Introduction to the NRA Basic Range Safety Officer Course, The role of the NRA Range Safety Officer, and Range Standard Operating Procedures
At the conclusion of this lesson instructor candidates will be able to:
· Conduct Lessons I and II of the NRA Basic Range Safety Officer Course · Understand the NRA’s Basic Range Safety Officer Course · Effectively teach the certification requirements for the NRA Range Safety Officer · Effectively teach the role of Range Safety Officer Course · Effectively teach the purpose of having Range Standard Operating Procedures LESSON NINE (60 min) Venue - Classroom Teaching Basic Range Safety Officer Lesson III: Range Inspection and Range Rules
At the conclusion of this lesson instructor candidates will be able to:
· Conduct Lesson III of the NRA Basic Range Safety Officer Course · Effectively teach “ properly inspect and indoor range · Effectively teach “ properly inspect and outdoor range · Effectively teach the four types of shooting range rules and how each type applies to handling and use of guns
LESSON TEN (60 min) - Classroom Teaching Basic Range Safety Officer Lesson IV: Range Safety Briefing
At the conclusion of this lesson instructor candidates will be able to:
· Conduct Lesson IV of NRA Basic Range Safety Officer Course · Effectively teach the purpose of a range safety briefing · Organize candidates to conduct a a range safety briefing LESSON ELEVEN (60 min) - Classroom Teaching Basic Range Safety Officer Lesson V: Emergency Procedures At the conclusion of this lesson instructor candidates will be able to:
· Conduct Lesson V of the NRA Basic Range Safety Officer Course · Effectively teach the purpose of having emergency procedures · Effectively teach the steps to take during an emergency · Organize candidates to conduct an emergency exercise LESSON TWELVE (60 min) - Classroom Teaching Basic Range Safety Officer Lesson VI: Gun Stoppages and Malfunctions
At the conclusion of this lesson instructor candidates will be able to:
· Conduct Lesson VI of the NRA Basic Range Safety Officer Course · Effectively teach the difference between a stoppage and a malfunction · Effectively teach how to safely take a gun from a shooter · Effectively teach how to clear common stoppages LESSON THIRTEEN (60 min) - Classroom Teaching Basic Range Safety Officer Lesson VII: Test and Review and Chief Range Safety Officer Exam
At the conclusion of this lesson instructor candidates will be able to: · Explain the role of the examination in the training process · Explain the role of student evaluations in instructor development · Explain the importance recognizing students upon successful completion of a student training course · Take instructor certification test: Score of 90% required for full certification · Pass the NRA’s Chief Range Safety Officer test · Applying to the NRA for certification
